Director/Senior Director of Business Development - Boutique CRO building out full service offering
We are currently working with a niche CRO looking to build out its full service client base by bringing on an East Coast Director or Senior Director of Business Development. This position is responsible for building out the client base, negotiating contracts, performing bid defense and securing business for the client, primarily focused on their full service offering.
Responsibilities:
- Develop new business prospects by proactively reaching out to new potential clients and expand service offering with current client base.
- Achieve assigned sales targets.
- Identify, prepare for and attend targeted conferences and trade shows to actively promote the clients services to potential prospects
- Work strategically to cultivate long-term, trust-based relationships with new and existing clients, developing in-depth knowledge of their organization, needs/issues, and competitive landscape.
- Maintain increasing functional and technical knowledge of all services for appropriate cross-sell opportunities and expansion of services provided.

- Coordinate with contracts and proposals team members, and internal functional leaders to develop effective and tailored requests for information (RFIs) and requests for proposals (RFPs).
- Work with internal team leaders of functional areas to assist in preparation for bid defenses, developing project-specific content to address client’s specific questions/concerns for presentations.
- Assist with senior internal commercial leader in the development of new sales processes, marketing materials, reusable assets and overall SOPs for the commercial team.
- Implementation and maintenance of sales operational metrics, and continuous improvement in metrics performance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years experience in business development within life sciences (preferably with a CRO)
- Proven track record of winning new business for CROs, Pharmas or Biotechs.
- Minimum of a Bachelors in Science or Business disciplines
- Strong industry network
- Exceptional people management skills to enable interaction with both internal team members and external prospects
- Exceptional written communication and presentation skills.
- Travel level specification: this position may require up to 50% business travel.
